PATS.
PAT PAT.
UL did not invent headpats. It did put them behind a command almost immediately, negotiate them in chat, keep score, pat Saber back, reduce the gesture to two words, and eventually distribute it to the whole old room.
The internet gesture is generic. The local thing is the machinery. In the earliest surviving week of the UL server, w/pat already works in the Lobby. From there a pat can be requested, refused, executed, counted, aimed at another bot, dropped into screenshot jail, or pluralized for everybody still standing in Slice.
CARE ALREADY HAS COMMAND SYNTAX.
Gilli types w/pat @Mob | BAPE. Two hundred sixty-nine milliseconds later Waifu answers: Gilli patted Suzimasu.
Ayun runs the same command on Gilli that afternoon. A few days later Waifu's own help text documents the feature plainly: Pat those nekos OwO.
That does not make headpats a UL invention. It does mean the young server had already made the gesture executable infrastructure.
GILLI ASKS. COOKIE SAYS NO. MUGEN RUNS THE COMMAND.
Gilli: I would like pats please. Cookie: no pats for u. One minute later Mugen types eli pat @New Account Gilli#3226.
The immediate output gives Gilli the headpat anyway and reports the running totals: Gilli has been patted twice; Bossmugen has patted others six times.
The response account is exported under the pooled Deleted User identity, so the bot name stays unresolved. The counter does not. Affection has analytics.
SABER HAS A JOB. APPARENTLY SABER ALSO HAS A HEAD.
Ren follows an event notice with -pats saber-. Gilli later gives the eternally confused event bot a direct -Pat pat-.
Early on, a bot delivers the pats. Now a bot receives them. The gesture has crossed the human/machine line without needing a meeting about it.
THEN THE GESTURE BECOMES PORTABLE.
Mugen posts a pat-head GIF. Anthos posts one. Cele posts a pat-pat-pats GIF. Rummy simply writes *pat pat*. Rich later answers with another pat-head GIF.
The old executable grammar travels too: the primary Wall export still has eli pat commands in 2021. By then the room can carry the gesture as command, GIF, or two words and nobody needs the manual.

Selected primary Wall rows showing the gesture in reusable text/GIF form: Mugen message 785334876974088222 posts a pat-head Tenor GIF; Anthos message 816682844289761291 posts another; Cele message 884324019850076160 posts a `pat-pat-pats` Tenor GIF; Rummy message 941500689014738964 writes `*pat pat*`; Rich message 1091244786457001994 posts a pat-head Tenor GIF. The same primary Wall export also preserves executable `eli pat` use in 2021 (including Mugen message 820390957525499914 and Anthos message 837000594794872942), showing the command grammar traveled beyond Club Only. For GIF rows, POSTED BY is grounded; MADE BY / CAPTURED BY is not assigned to the Discord poster.
GIVE YALL ALL
*PATS*
THE SMALL GESTURE GETS SCALED TO THE ROOM.
The surviving Slice endpoint is three Sye messages: memory lasp, then give yall all *pats*, then :catpat:.
The plural is the mutation. In April 2020 a person can target one person through a bot command. Six years later Sye is not targeting one clown. She throws the gesture across the old room.
And then the transcript stops. That silence belongs to the archive boundary, not to us. No formal closure ceremony is claimed. No farewell intent gets reverse-engineered from the fact that these happen to be the last surviving Slice messages.
NOT HEADPATS.
WHAT THE HOUSE BUILT AROUND THEM.
Headpats are generic internet language. UL ownership is local recurrence plus mutation: a Lobby command, bot output, per-user counters, multiple carriers, multiple rooms, humans and bots, text and GIFs, then a late callback that still needs no explanation.
Run the command. Ask for care. Refuse it for sport. Keep score. Pat the bot after work. Drop two words under somebody's Wall case. Years later, pat everybody.
source boundary
Earliest surviving is not origin. April 6, 2020 is the earliest currently surfaced exact UL-server pat-command evidence used by this genealogy, not proof UL invented headpats, Waifu's command feature, or that nobody used pats earlier. The Apr. 6 commandβWaifu response joins are exact primary Lobby rows; the bot-supplied nekos.life GIFs are not credited as UL-made artwork. The September 30 `eli pat` response is exported under the pooled Deleted User account, so its exact bot identity remains unresolved even though the immediate command/output sequence and counter text are preserved. For Wall GIFs, the Discord author is POSTED BY, not automatically MADE BY. Patting Saber is personification, not evidence of sentience or a formal bot-pet role. Reaction/gesture recurrence does not rank friendships. The origin and creator of the `:catpat:` emoji remain unresolved here. Sye's July 9, 2026 sequence is the current surviving Slice endpoint, not proof of a formal channel closure or planned farewell.
