# Tofu
Tofu is current Staff, which is a beautifully respectable filing label for somebody who has spent years asking for screenshots, getting prosecuted by screenshots, threatening to repeat the underlying offense, and telling paranormal entities that 2 a.m. is personal time.
The useful version of her is not “Wall person” or “responsible Staff.” It is the collision. Tofu can be the person quietly picking up enough slack at work that new hires assume she is management, then spend the next social scene making herself look like a menace on purpose. She can say "Tofu is a squishy person irl" and, in the same explanation, admit that the scary presentation is armor: project enough fear that people think twice before hurting you.
That makes a lot of the rest of her click into place. Tofu is soft enough to care what happens to people, practical enough to keep adding usable limits when everybody else has already committed to the stupid premise, and petty enough that disrespect may be answered with an elaborate printer malfunction that did not exist five minutes ago.
USEFUL ENOUGH TO LOOK LIKE MANAGEMENT
In February 2023, Tofu explains why new hires keep mistaking her for a manager: she is the one who picks up the slack from her department.
A longer answer in March fills in the motive without giving her a fake promotion. She hates feeling useless. She does not want other departments looking down on hers. She likes proving she is more capable than people assume, likes learning new skills, and likes being trusted even when her appearance apparently tells strangers to reconsider their life choices.
This is not ambition in the clean résumé sense. Tofu explicitly places herself low in the formal hierarchy while enjoying the fact that people read the work upward anyway. The satisfaction is competence becoming visible whether or not the badge catches up.
It also explains why “Staff” should be lived rather than recited. Tofu's useful-person reflex exists before the title can do any character work for us. She sees unfinished shit and finishes it. Then, apparently, she looks scary enough that everybody assumes somebody must have authorized this.
SQUISHY PERSON. TERRIBLE BRANDING DEPARTMENT.
Six days after the accidental-manager answer, Tofu supplies the contradiction herself.
Coworkers think she is the scary or crazy one. Tofu answers:
"Tofu is a squishy person irl"
Then explains that she projects fear so she does not get hurt.
That is unusually clean self-knowledge for a person whose later conflict strategy is basically improv theater for customer service. The intimidating shell is not secretly evidence that she wants a fight. Tofu says it is there because softness without a boundary feels unsafe.
By August 2024 the boundary has acquired props. A rude retail customer can get performative breathlessness, a pen that suddenly does not work, a desk move, an unnecessary trip, a printer jam, or the deeply mysterious disappearance of Tofu herself if somebody whistles at her like a dog. Asked for the manager, her scripted answer is essentially that she has been wondering where he is too.
Tofu does not become less competent when she gets petty. The pettiness is controlled friction: if somebody insists on making the interaction disrespectful, she can make the interaction long.
COOKIE IS THE DESIGNATED EMERGENCY THROWABLE
Cookie has been one of Tofu's favorite places to hide affection under a fake assault charge for years.
In July 2022, asked who she would meet from the server and what they would do, Tofu chooses Cookie for two reasons in the same breath: get him out of his bad weather, and fight him. The care and the fake violence arrive attached to each other like a cursed gift set.
In February 2023, hypothetical danger gets the solution:
"Throw @🍪Cookies and 🧃Juicebox at them and run."
By August 2024 she accidentally lets a straightforward compliment survive for half a sentence: Cookie is "such a little cutie on his own". Then group context apparently demotes him to "just a man". Cookie replies with Fat_Wheeze. Thirty-two seconds later Tofu comes back and corrects the record:
**"Barely a man* fixed it"**
That timing is the whole relationship bit. She says something nice, Cookie laughs, and Tofu immediately rushes back in to put spikes on it. Cookie does not treat the correction like a rupture; he is already laughing inside the same scene.
The Wall had been doing a different version of this years earlier. Cookie files Tofu's bee spam. Tofu yells "PUTTING ME ON BLAST!", then promises "I'll fucking do it again too." Tofu later prosecutes Cookie. In 2024 Cookie warns that giving Tofu Wall access means "she bouta expose me", then personally posts a screenshot at her anyway. Tofu true-replies with her own screenshot and "Oh si? Pues toma". Cookie wheezes.
The 2021 prosecutions are even more revealing once the whole run is visible. Tofu keeps filing Cookie under "cochino"; Cookie keeps fleeing with ":PandaRun:" until he starts objecting to the editing itself: "u left out the JK No part", then "u always leave out the jk part". Tofu does not defend the crop as accidental. She answers "For a reason!". That is the joke becoming procedural. Cookie knows exactly how Tofu is building the case, Tofu knows he knows, and selective framing becomes part of the shared script instead of a hidden trick.
Nobody here needs a literal fight, a romance, or an invented closeness rank. The behavior is already specific enough: Cookie keeps being the person Tofu chooses when the joke needs a victim, a weapon, a defendant, or somebody to rescue from the weather. Apparently he also keeps signing the waiver by replying.
SHE WANTS THE RECEIPT. THIS DOES NOT GIVE HER IMMUNITY.
Tofu's screenshot problem starts early.
June 2021:
"Wall of shame, wall of shame. Post the rebate 😝"
A pooled Deleted User accuses her of trying to expose everyone.
Tofu:
"Maybe ^^"
A few months later Cookie puts *her* on the Wall over promised bee spam. Tofu's objection is loud, immediate, and completely useless because thirty-seven seconds later she has already announced recidivism.
Three years after that, a current conversation reminds Tofu of an older one and her brain does not stop at *oh yeah, I remember that*. It goes directly to:
"where is that screenshot"
That is the actual continuity. Screenshots are not a formal office for Tofu. They are conversational ammunition, memory, proof, setup, counterattack, and occasionally the reason she herself is now standing in court.
She does not merely hoard receipts. She understands that the person asking for the receipt may be the next exhibit. This does not appear to discourage her.
THE ANSWER IS NOT ALWAYS NO
The scary-shell version of Tofu also makes her practical-limit habit easier to understand.
In one 2021 Wall scene, ShiyaX asks whether there is a limit. Tofu's answer is "At least pace yourself". In another, she warns that an unidentified item is hard to remove, adds "Just an FYI", and eventually lands on "Try em…just not on a body part you treasure".
The exact objects stay downstairs because the images were not safely inspected. The social move is visible anyway. Tofu does not need to become Formal Safety Adult or kill the joke. She can stay inside the room's unserious register and still add a boundary somebody can actually use.
That fits the woman who says the scary part is protective rather than aspirational. She is not trying to turn every chaotic premise into a lecture. She is trying to make sure the chaos has a railing somewhere before somebody leans too far.
And sometimes she is upstream of the chaos instead. On June 29, she posts an attachment with "No context." and then follows it with five more attachment-only Wall posts over roughly half an hour. The missing explanation is not a hole she rushes to repair; withholding it is part of the delivery. Four days later Zyrcant posts an attachment and Tofu needs exactly one line to change the room's genre: "Starting bid: 5¢". Zyrcant reacts, then Mugs, Ren, and Gilli pick up the auction language without Tofu having to narrate the conversion.
The same trick keeps appearing in other rooms. One Daycare run goes "BRUIZ HAS A WHA" and then, after Ketsu tries to name the thing, Tofu closes the tiny semantic emergency with "Dog. Dog, ketsu." Another day she opens with "Wolf noises 🐺", gives the wolf a **"*pets the wolf*", and Mugs is the one who later burns the extra electricity on "THATS A BAD DOGGO" before folding fifteen seconds later into "Okay its cute nuuu"**.
That is the other half of Tofu's stabilizer instinct. She knows when a joke needs a railing, but she also seems to know when it only needs one good handhold. Remove the context, set the price, name the dog, make the premise playable, maybe nudge it once, then let somebody else embarrass themselves purchasing the deluxe ending. There is a kind of social security in that: Tofu can help make the bit work without needing everybody to remember who technically owned the final punchline.
PETTY CRIMES
- Caramel: "Caramel. Anything caramel." There is apparently no need for a subcommittee.
- Sleep requires a full audio engineering stack: fan in the background, beach noises on Google Home, PPOMO ASMR on the TV, all at once. Silence has been rejected at the architectural level.
- Ghosts have office hours: confronted with a hypothetical 2 a.m. paranormal disturbance, Tofu's answer is "Tell the thing to come back during business hours. 2am is me time." The dead may submit a ticket tomorrow.
- Her brother once lost an argument with the calendar: Tofu reconstructed the June-versus-July conversation for Whiskey and closed with "pray for his brain." She did not summarize the offense. She brought the transcript.
- Work quantity already annoyed her in 2021: "I work part time job and super part time job. I don’t want more work 😭". Two years later strangers are mistaking her for management because she keeps picking up slack. Unfortunately, the universe did not respect the request.
- New Year preservation protocol: the first surviving 2022 Slice line is Tofu yelling "NO ONE TOUCH ANYTHING NOW THAT WE'RE IN 2022." The year had been open for seconds and was already considered breakable.
Tofu's contradictions do not need fixing. She can be squishy and intentionally intimidating, useful and deeply unserious, careful with limits and delighted by bad ideas, embarrassed by a receipt and already searching for the next one. Staff is where UL files her now. The person underneath the filing label is somebody who keeps doing the work, keeps the armor handy, and will absolutely waste your time if you whistle at her like a dog.
