Zepp

THEIR WHOLE DEAL

Malaysian dentist, UL Staff member, and one of Mugen's pre-Dragon Raja friends. People remember him as quotable, question-heavy, easy to caricature beside Key, and familiar enough with Ren that she still remembers teaching him how to fish.

# Zepp

Zepp is a Malaysian dentist, UL Staff member, and one of the people who was already in Mugen's life before Dragon Raja ever handed this social circle a game to organize itself around. He belongs to the older network with Dean and Key, the kind of friendship layer that later UL history keeps tripping over and realizing, oh right, some of these people had already been doing this to each other for years.

He is also one of those infuriating people whose reputation arrives before the cleanest footage of the person himself. By 2020, people already talk as though Zepp saying things is its own recognizable genre. Later recollections make the shape sharper: apparently he asked enough questions to become a punchline, Tae could compare him to Key without needing to explain the joke, and Ren remembers teaching him how to fish. Put together, Zepp stops looking like a Staff name with a profession attached and starts looking like what he apparently was in the room: an old friend whose voice, curiosity, and little practical interactions stuck in people's heads.

PEOPLE HAD A CATEGORY CALLED “ZEPP'S QUOTES.”

Rooks does not say Zepp is funny in the abstract. She says:

"I fucking love Zepp’s quotes"

Ren answers almost immediately:

"Indeed"

That speed is delicious. There is no “what quotes?” and no “who is Zepp?” The phrase lands like shared vocabulary. Rooks can refer to Zepp's quotes as a whole category and Ren already knows what shelf she means.

The individual greatest hits are still not all recoverable, but socially the reputation is obvious: Zepp had a way of saying things that people remembered as *Zepp things*. That distinction matters. Lots of people are present in a busy server. Fewer become recognizable enough that somebody can review their dialogue as a body of work and get an instant co-sign.

Later memories make the same point from a different angle. Mugen, invoking the old days, complains about:

"ZEPP AND HIS 209485 QUESTIONS A DAY"

Nobody sane should read "209485" as an analytics figure. Mugen is doing Mugen math: take a recognizable behavior, inflate it until the number becomes physically insulting, and trust everybody to understand the original trait underneath. The joke only works if Zepp asking a lot of questions is already legible enough to exaggerate.

So the emerging picture is not simply “Zepp was quotable.” It is somebody verbally active in a very specific way: curious, apparently question-happy, memorable enough in phrasing that peers later reduce whole chunks of his conversational style into affectionate shorthand.

KEY-ADJACENT, ACCORDING TO THE PEER REVIEW BOARD.

Tae contributes another piece of the old Zepp reputation with two spectacularly irresponsible comparisons:

"walmart key"

and

"A AUTO BOT OF KEY"

This does not make Zepp a Key clone, and it definitely does not merge the two men because Tae decided to commit metaphor. What it does show is that some resemblance between them was socially obvious enough for Tae to build a joke around it.

That is especially funny because Key and Zepp already sit in the same older pre-Raja social layer around Mugen. The comparison therefore reads less like a stranger getting randomly matched to another stranger and more like somebody looking at two familiar fixtures and deciding one can be used as the unit of measurement for the other.

Exactly *what* Tae was matching is still open. Speech? Question volume? General energy? Some old interaction everybody present understood? The biography does not need to invent the missing noun. The useful part is the familiarity behind the joke: Zepp had enough of a recognizable social shape that peers could caricature him relationally.

And, importantly, he seems to have fed this machine simply by being himself. The funniest Zepp material is rarely a giant staged bit. It is people remembering the way he talks, the questions, the resemblance joke, the small habits that become house shorthand after enough exposure.

REN DIDN'T ONLY REMEMBER THE JOKES.

Ren's Zepp memory has another gear entirely.

She is the person who instantly agrees that “Zepp's quotes” are a thing, but she also remembers teaching Zepp how to fish.

That is wonderfully ordinary relationship material. No declaration of closeness. No anniversary speech. No giant lore event. Just the kind of memory that comes from actually spending time doing something together long enough for one person to remember showing the other how it worked.

It gives their dynamic more texture than “Ren laughed at him once.” She knows the joke-reputation version of Zepp, yes, but she also knows the practical version: Zepp beside her in a game, learning a mechanic, asking or following along, the two of them occupying enough mundane time together that the lesson survives in memory later.

Calling Ren a formal mentor would make the scene much sillier than it is. The intimacy here is exactly in its lack of grandeur. She taught him to fish. She remembers it. That is how lived friendships often survive: not as a résumé of important moments but as one stupidly specific thing somebody can still say years later.

FIVE HOURS LATER, HE FINALLY LOOKS AT THE CLOCK.

December 3, 2020 gives Zepp a rare long stretch where his own typed side survives clearly. A VIP Business Lounge that was built for guarded cross-club business somehow ends up hosting hours of co-op cooking and hanging out because, naturally, specialized diplomacy infrastructure eventually becomes somebody's kitchen.

The participant is displayed as pooled "Deleted User", but Mugs has confirmed that this specific session is Zepp. That identification applies to the session and nowhere else.

The funniest part is not that Zepp says anything spectacularly profound. It is that the session keeps going until he seems to realize the session has, in fact, kept going.

"5 hpurs??"

Four minutes later:

"Me sleep naww"

There is a whole tiny collapse in those two messages. First the disbelief at elapsed time, with "hpurs" doing its best under workplace conditions. Then the administrative decision: no more civilization, sleep now.

Because some of the hangout happened in voice, the surviving text is lopsided; Zepp is sometimes answering things history can no longer hear. But the rhythm is still legible. His writing gets clipped and increasingly economical as the night drags on. The directness of "Me sleep naww" is not a grand personality statement. It is better: one person reaching the end of a long social session and turning into three words and a stretched vowel.

He apparently stayed long enough to be shocked by his own attendance.

THE OLD GROUP DOESN'T NEED INTRODUCTIONS.

By January 2022, Mugen can explain being awake by casually mentioning:

"Dean zep and key texting"

There is no exposition because none is needed. Dean, Zepp, and Key are not being assembled for a lore scene; they are simply present in Mugen's ordinary life at the same time.

That is the most useful kind of continuity for an older friendship. The relationship does not survive because somebody keeps announcing that it is historic. It survives because two years into UL's own enormous story, Mugen can still mention Zepp in the same breath as Dean and Key as though of course these people are texting, why would anyone need the footnotes.

His Staff role belongs later in that picture, not over it. Zepp matters as a person before a Discord shelf tells you where to file him. The Staff badge is true. The older social fact is truer to how he enters the story: he was already one of Mugen's people.

PETTY CRIMES

  • Apparently asked enough questions that Mugen's remembered unit of measurement became "209485 QUESTIONS A DAY".
  • Has a peer-reviewed category called Zepp's quotes, despite history misplacing most of the setlist.
  • Tae once reduced him to "walmart key" and "A AUTO BOT OF KEY". Key remains innocent of this manufacturing process.
  • Ren remembers teaching him how to fish. This is not a certification program.
  • Once helped Zoshaa resurrect a chicken-nugget craving Mugen said had been dead for years. The exact propaganda remains unknown.
  • Participated in a hangout long enough to discover, in real time, that five hours had happened to him.
  • Filed "Me sleep naww" as the final operational plan.

Zepp's legend is not built out of one giant incident. It is the accumulation of smaller recognitions: Rooks loving the quotes, Ren immediately knowing the category, Mugen exaggerating the question volume into nonsense, Tae inventing discount-Key manufacturing, Ren remembering the fishing lesson, and Zepp himself eventually noticing that a hangout has eaten five hours of his life.

The result is a much more specific person than “older friend + Staff + dentist.” Zepp seems to have been memorable through repetition and familiarity: the things he kept asking, the way he phrased things, the ordinary game-time spent with people who would remember it later, and the comfortable old-network presence that never needed to announce itself as history while it was happening.
