Nothien

THEIR WHOLE DEAL

Nothien will start the fight before locating the fight, keep Discord open after leaving the game, take years to call someone a friend unless they apparently speedrun the application, and support people with the least glamorous care package imaginable: stay, show up, cook something.

# Nothien

Nothien has a very specific kind of competence: absolutely willing to start the activity; absolutely willing to admit they have no idea where the activity is.

That combination shows up almost immediately. They can throw "Fight, anyone?" into Club Only, get Mugs to volunteer, and then—once there is actually a fight to go to—hit the room with "Where?" and "Am losttttt". Gilli answers "Forging Swords", then "Come up here". Nothien's response is not embarrassment, bluffing, or fifteen minutes of pretending the map has personally betrayed them. It is just "Ohhh thank youuu".

There is something deeply useful about a person who does not make confusion expensive. Nothien wants in, asks, gets pointed in the right direction, goes. Initiative and disorientation are apparently allowed to coexist.

THE DOOR STAYS OPEN

The same April 2020 stretch catches Nothien loosening their connection to Dragon Raja without treating that as a social funeral.

While stepping away from the game, Nothien tells the room, "I still have discord if you guys ever need someone to rant to or anything." Even the goodbye is outward-facing. They are the one leaving the game, and the offer they make is still *you can come talk to me*.

Mugs answers, "Thanks for the good times, Noth. You're welcome back anytime 🙂". Not a contract, not a dramatic plea, just an open door stated plainly enough that nobody has to guess whether leaving the game means being socially erased.

Club Only makes the distinction even more mundane. Nothien cannot put voice on because other people are around: "Can't put voice on, others here haha". Mugs answers that this is exactly why the text room exists. The little "haha" is the whole temperature of it. Nothien does not turn a practical limitation into a ceremony. Text works, so text it is.

That easy pragmatism is the through-line: cannot voice? Type. Cannot find the fight? Ask Gilli. Leaving Raja? Keep Discord. The person does not need every circumstance to be ideal before participating in whatever version still works.

FRIENDSHIP HAS AN APPLICATION PROCESS

Nothien is casual about needing directions and much less casual about the word friend.

Asked how they support people, they do not reach for a speech. "If you're not good with words like me, just stick around, show them you care, cook them some comfort food." That is an almost aggressively unglamorous care philosophy. Stay. Make yourself present. Feed the person. If the perfect sentence is unavailable, apparently dinner still works.

That softness has a limit, and Nothien is unusually clear about why it needs one. Talking about apologies and repeated behavior, their point is basically that saying sorry can be easier than actually changing; if somebody keeps crossing the same line and keeps getting forgiven for it, eventually the forgiveness can start teaching them that the line does not matter. It is not a harder replacement for the comfort-food philosophy. It is the guardrail around it. Nothien will apparently make room for somebody to be human without confusing care with unlimited access to keep doing the same stupid thing.

A week later they admit their "friend bar" may be too high. Plenty of people can be familiar acquaintances; friend status, they say, usually takes a couple years. Then Nothien immediately reveals the exploit in their own system: "sometimes they Speedrun it by claiming me as their friend and they get tentatively put there".

The word tentatively is doing heroic work. Friendship is apparently a controlled-access environment, except somebody sufficiently shameless can walk up, declare victory, and receive provisional credentials.

It also makes the comfort-food answer land differently. Nothien is careful with the label, not stingy with care. The archive does not give us a named person who definitively cleared the full multi-year bar in this slice, so the page is not inventing one. What Nothien tells us about themself is already enough: words may be hard, labels are earned slowly, but staying with somebody and doing something useful does not require a notarized friendship certificate.

GILLI KNOWS WHERE THE DAMN STAIRS ARE

Gilli's part in the fight scene is tiny and perfect. Nothien says "Am losttttt"; Gilli does not roast them into the floor, write a guidebook, or make the rescue socially expensive. "Forging Swords." "Come up here." Done.

Nothien immediately thanks her. It is a small exchange, but it says a lot about the kind of social friction Nothien seems comfortable with: they can ask for help in public, and when somebody gives it, they take the help instead of defending their dignity from the horrifying accusation of not knowing where a staircase is.

Mugs has the same practical ease with them in a different lane. Nothien says voice is awkward; Mugs points to text. Nothien asks for a fight; Mugs says yes. Neither relationship needs a huge speech in these scenes. Things are made workable in one or two lines.

WORK NOTH IS NOT PLAY NOTH

Nothien eventually states the split outright: "I like things separate, my work/school attitude constitute not at all my attitude at play". The grammar is doing what it needs to do. There is an on-duty version and an off-duty version, and they are not applying for joint custody.

The schedule answer is less reassuring. Nothien says they work best around 5–7 a.m. or, sure, 1–3 a.m., then asks "Work life balance? Who's he?". Around the same period, Raja plus snacks has become one of the ways they describe being *off*. That is not enough to invent a profession or diagnose an overwork problem. It is enough to understand why play-space separation matters to them: if the rest of life is demanding, the room where you can be the person stealing pizza crusts has a job too.

Their anger answer has the same preference for low theater. Usually they try to reason or say nothing. If they are really really angry, they laugh. The interesting part is not whether that is a universal law of Nothien; it is how neatly it matches the rest of the self-description. They do not present themself as somebody who needs a big verbal performance for every feeling. Presence, practical action, silence, and occasionally an alarming laugh are all apparently valid communication technologies.

THE BOT FORGOT. REN DID NOT.

Then Nothien walks through Lobby again in January 2023 and somehow manages to introduce themself like a returning employee who has misplaced both the org chart and their own badge:

"Nothien, Underlords(?), Member(?), decently old"

The question marks are funny because they are real uncertainty. Nothien is not swaggering back in claiming an exact status they are unsure about. They give the name, gesture vaguely at whatever box they used to occupy, and add "decently old" as if tenure can be expressed through weathering.

Ren's answer arrives almost immediately: "NOTHIIIII".

That is the better return story anyway. The machinery can behave like Nothien needs processing; Nothien can put question marks around their own membership label; Ren does not need either system to tell him who just walked in. Recognition gets there first.

It also completes the open-door beat without turning it into destiny. In 2020 Mugs says "You're welcome back anytime". In 2023 Nothien comes back uncertain enough to type parentheses and question marks. The room's response is not a historical-status hearing. Ren yells their name.

PETTY CRIMES

  • Starts the fight before locating the fight. "Fight, anyone?" followed by "Where?" is an elite two-message character arc.
  • Directional dignity: nonexistent. "Am losttttt" is not whispered privately. If Nothien needs directions, the room is going to know about it.
  • Friendship has an exploit. Apparently the multi-year application can be speedrun by announcing that you are already friends and accepting provisional status.
  • Cannot dance. Their proposed technique is "doing the gecko": plaster themself to the wall and hope choreography stops asking questions.
  • Tomatoes have been served notice. Mild sweetness can stay; tomato-related food apparently has an enemy.
  • Villain plan: steal the pizza crusts. Not the pizza. Specifically the crusts. Municipal threat level remains difficult to calculate.
  • "Decently old". Possibly the least useful age field ever submitted and still somehow an excellent self-description.
  • Text-room pragmatist. Other people nearby? Voice off, typing on, problem solved.
  • Offers rant access while leaving the game. Even the exit line contains a little social emergency door for everybody else.
SHOW RECEIPTS

On April 6, 2020, while stepping away from Dragon Raja, Nothien said `I still have discord if you guys ever need someone to rant to or anything.` Mugen answered, `Thanks for the good times, Noth. You're welcome back anytime 🙂`.

The same date, Mugen described Club Only as a text option for people for whom talking was inconvenient. Nothien answered `Can't put voice on, others here haha`; Mugen replied `issok! that's exactly why we have this channel and club chat lol`.

On April 6, 2020, Nothien asked `Fight, anyone?`; after Mugen volunteered, Nothien soon asked `Where?` and `Am losttttt`. Gilli answered `Forging Swords` and `Come up here`; Nothien replied `Ohhh thank youuu`.

On January 12, 2023, the same account returned through Lobby and self-filed with the final edited wording `Nothien, Underlords(?), Member(?), decently old` followed by `hello`; Ren answered `NOTHIIIII` moments later.

On February 28, 2023, Nothien argued that apologizing can be easier than changing behavior and that repeatedly forgiving somebody who keeps crossing the same boundary can encourage more boundary-pushing.
