# Beowulf
Beowulf likes a little swagger. The useful part is that he does not seem especially interested in protecting the swagger from reality.
He can announce better loot, play team leader, call people "my baby's", challenge Snow to fight him, get lost in Discord mechanics, accept somebody else walking him through the fix, return Gilli's affection after briefly losing to bot syntax, and ask where the memes are almost immediately afterward. None of those modes cancel the others. The confidence works because correction does not appear to humiliate him out of the room.
Other people treat him accordingly. They notice when he vanishes. They fuss at him. They hug him. They order him around. They help him. Beowulf's usual answer is not a status-recovery speech. It is another little bit.
THE SWAGGER IS NOT FRAGILE
The earliest surviving Discord doorway already has this mechanism hiding inside it.
Beowulf is locked out. A pooled Deleted User recognizes BEO, complains that he has not logged on for roughly four days, and calls him a former "PRENTICE". Beowulf does not apologize for disappearing. He answers with the game-side explanation:
"My loot is better in beowulf"
Then the unresolved speaker lands on the emotional truth anyway: they still love him.
That exchange has more relationship shape than a clean reunion would. Somebody notices the absence enough to complain; Beowulf treats the complaint as survivable; affection does not require either person to stop teasing. The speaker stays faceless because the Deleted User bucket is pooled. The familiarity does not.
Gilli gives us the same Beowulf from a softer direction. She hugs him through the bot. Beowulf's immediate instinct is to pat her back. The first "!pat" does not cooperate, so he corrects the command and gets the return gesture through.
That tiny technical failure is perfect for him. Socially, the response is instant. Technically, the head pat needs troubleshooting.
Then voice chat is broken. Beowulf says so. Somebody helps. He answers "Yes comandira". Thirty-seven seconds later, apparently satisfied that the essential infrastructure is restored, he asks:
"Where is the memes section"
This man did not survive access support to be productive.
SNOW CAN TELL HIM TO GET OUT. BEO CAN TELL SNOW TO FIGHT HIM.
May gives the swagger an excellent natural predator: Snow.
Beowulf is in the Lobby performing little team-leader/protector authority:
"I am team leader"
"Can't leave my baby's alone"
Snow answers with all the warmth of a bouncer who has seen this man before:
"Get out of my lobby"
"Go to the rooms"
Beowulf's response is not wounded hierarchy discourse.
"@Snow come and fight me"
And shortly afterward Snow is simply telling him "I am sleeping beo".
That is lived familiarity in four moves. Snow can puncture the pose directly; Beowulf can convert the correction into a challenge; neither needs a repair paragraph. The exchange works because the mock authority was never so precious that reality could break it.
VIP ON PAPER, HOUSEGUEST IN PRACTICE
The formal shelf is still VIP. The social behavior keeps drifting toward somebody who knows where the furniture is supposed to be — even when he personally cannot find it yet.
Across April and early May, event announcements keep activating Jere with tiny replies: "Alright!!!", "Roger", "Omggg", "Oooh going now". He does not need a speech. Somebody yells that something is happening and he behaves like the Bat-Signal was personally addressed to him.
By May 12 the direction of traffic flips. Jere posts his own:
"@everyone star of Cassell now"
Two days later he is helping Shamont through the same Discord door that had been giving him trouble in April. Beowulf says "Invite shamont to the server". Mugen tells him he can share the link. Beowulf pings Shamont; Shamont appears; Mugen handles the visible role assignment. Later Beowulf tells another arrival:
"Enjoy our serve"
That does not make him a Recruiter. It does make the possessive funny. The man who needed directions to the memes is now saying our server and helping somebody else get inside.
PETTY CRIMES
- Memes before dignity: voice gets fixed; helper gets "Yes comandira"; thirty-seven seconds later the urgent infrastructure question is "Where is the memes section".
- Head-pat technical support: Gilli hugs him and Beowulf immediately returns the gesture, but not before one failed "!pat" attempt. Affection: intuitive. Bot syntax: apparently a separate degree program.
- 3 a.m. was an explanation, not a warning: one early Lobby answer is simply "Because 3 am". It stays a dated scene, not a permanent sleep schedule.
- One complaint requires several media formats: "We are so far away from 95" becomes repeated text, "Maybe dragon force can help me to say", a "How Far?" GIF, and a YouTube link. We still do not know what "95" was. Jere nevertheless gave the problem a soundtrack.
Beowulf's public file works much better once the contradiction is allowed to stay intact. He is swagger-forward without being correction-averse, affectionate without getting solemn about it, helpful without needing a formal job, and socially old enough that a locked door reads as inconvenience rather than introduction.
VIP is the category. The person is the old houseguest who gets locked out, lets somebody fix his voice chat, demands the memes, tells Snow to fight him, and is soon helping the next person find the door.
